Megan told us last night that Ethel (one of our original pygmy goats) was in labor & she was going to keep an eye on her. After laboring for more than 24 hours and going through many checks from Megan, it was clear Ethel was not going to be able to do this. She had only sucessfully bred 1 time before... where she had a single birth.
After much debate, it was decided that we would either lose both Ethel & her unborn baby or they could take care of Ethel quickly & painlessly to save the baby. Thank goodness we have Josh in our family! He works for a butcher & was able to quickly put Ethel down so Megan could cut the baby out before we lost them both. "Lucky" was born on May 17th around 8:45 pm.
(The picture above shows the guys burying Ethel. Then the kids decided to hold hands and say a prayer for Ethel... it was very sweet!)
Lucky is a tribute to the word! He is so very "lucky" to be here & we are glad he's doing so well! Haley held him, fed him & is sleeping downstairs with him so she can get up with him every 3 hours to eat....
Sometimes we have to deal with tragedy to have the small blessings mean more to us. The kids will love Lucky forever! RIP Ethel!
We couldn't let the school board elections be the only exciting thing tonight!!!
